Jerabek Technology Committee
Computer Labs
Jerabek Elementary has not one, but two computer labs available for the students. The Lower Lab, with serves the K-1 grades, consists of 12 Pentium 4 computers, with a Windows XP Operating System. These computers were purchased in the 2003-2004 school year with FFO funds. K-1 students have choices of different educational games, typing practice, and the opportunity to work with Paint, Word, and the Internet.

The Upper Lab serves Grade 2-5. This lab consists of 35 Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon computers, with a Windows XP Operating System. These computers have been supplied by FFO funds over the past 4 years.  Last year, the monitors were all replaced with flat panels, to give the students more work space. The 2nd-5th grade students have the opportunity to work in Paint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mavis Beacon Typing and the Internet. Webquests, inquiry oriented tasks based on pre-determined sources on the web, are becoming more popular. The Upper Lab also has a teacher computer hooked up to a projector, so the students can follow what the instructor is doing by looking at a projection of the computer screen.

Jerabek students have the advantage of learning how to use standard word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs, as well as understand the vast store of knowledge available for research on the Internet. With the help of knowledgeable computer aide, also provided by FFO funds, students are guided through projects designed to fulfill the computer standards required by the San Diego Unified School District.

Classroom Computers
Each classroom was equipped 2 years ago with at least one computer. Other computers have been supplied by donations from parents. These classroom computers are used as teaching and research tools for the children.

Computer Donations
Did you recently buy a new computer for your home or business and are wondering what to do with the previous one? Or, perhaps your company has an excess computer inventory. We are looking for donations of working PCs Pentium 4 or faster  so that we can put more PCs into the classrooms. Printers with installation discs, speakers, headphones and monitors in good working condition are accepted, too. Donations are tax deductible. If you have a possible donation of a complete system please e-mail jerabektech@yahoo.com - we look forward to hearing from you!

Software Donations
Has your child outgrown his/her old educational software? Jerabek can use any educational software that will run on a Windows 98 Operating System or better. The software must be on the original disc (packaging not needed), and no longer used on your computer at home.

The FFO provides a computer consultant, computer aides, paper, printer cartridges, diskettes, cds, speakers, computers, repair parts and more. Your Super Pledge donation will contribute to the expansion of the available computer programs, as well as maintenance and improvement of the Technology department.
